Lago Petén

Flores was on the south east end of Lago Petén, a rather huge lake.  These photos were taken on the north west end, about a 30-40 minute drive around the lake. This little aldea was just 15 minutes or so away from the Ruins of Tikal.

The locals make many beautiful wooden products that they sell in a little store here, where they also fashion the items.  They use very few tools, yet the products are intricate, polished and very beautiful.

Younger children walk around watching for tourists, and try to sell some of the smaller items.  Bethany was not pleased to see parents kept their children out of school to do so.  Pretty common practice all over, though.
