Operation Steer Manure

Occasionally, I will have a guest blogger. This is one of those times. This mysterious blogger's name is Lady Godiva. Suffice it to say that she loves all things food and plants. Enjoy!

I am always on the hunt for the perfect food for my little children. I consider plants my children by the way. Anyway, I digress... So I have decided that there was no better food (like a filet mignon for plants) than steer manure, so I am trying it out by posting before and after shots of my babies, this is a before. The yellow flower is a new variety of impatient. "Busy Lizzy" is one of the common names for impatiens flowers, although this is a case where the scientific name is so widely used that it has virtually become a common name.

This is a Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum anagyroides) probably my most favorite tree in the whole, wide, world.... It also has a magnificent aroma as well as beauty. He is only five years old. I know when trees and or flowers are either male or female, do not ask me why, I just know..
Can you see the two lonely tomato bushes on either side? This is the tomaticus experimenticus that has been ongoing in my garden for the last thirteen years.... Every year I hope and pray for a tomato and every year except for one year I get no tomatoes. But it doesn't prevent me from trying. I will return in the future with more musings and progress on my babies. LG (Lady Godiva).

BBQ Chicken Teriyaki Salad

We have been eating a lot of salads the last week with this over-the-top for May hot weather. This chicken one is terrific, and not that time-consuming to make.
Chicken Teriyaki Salad
Marinade for Chicken:
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup oil
2 Tbl. ketchup
! Tbl. red wine vinegar
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 cloves crushed garlic
Salad:
Lettuce
Toasted almonds
Toasted sesame seeds
celery
red pepper
red onion
snow peas
carrots
green onion
grilled chicken breasts (marinate for 30 minutes and BBQ or broil)

Soy Salad Dressing:
1 1/2 cups soy sauce
1/3 cup honey
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. freshly grated ginger root (or 1/2 tsp. ground ginger)
1 Tbl. sesame oil
1/3 cup white wine
2 tsp lemon juice

Mix together, bring to a boil until sugar dissolved and cool. This makes a lot of dressing, so cut in half if desired, and you will still have leftovers
